our story
a mother-daughter owned small business in Marion, Indiana
Mom and I have always had a very unique relationship, one that family and friends have constantly admired and commented on throughout my life. Honestly, I have never known anything different so it wasn’t until later in life that I realized not everyone considered their mom their best friend. Seriously, you didn't tell your mom who your high school crush was?! For us, the friendship relationship has always come more naturally than the mother-daughter one. Not to say that I didn't know who was in charge when I was younger because believe me I did; but anytime there is something exciting or sad or just worth talking about going on in my life, my mom has always been the first to know. The best comparison that we have found to get others to truly understand is one of our all-time favorite TV shows, "Gilmore Girls". Just call us the Tenbusch Girls! (It doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?)
Growing up, my family was very big on projects. We were never the type to just sit on the couch and watch the big game or play a board game. We were the type who remodeled, built, or DIY-ed around the house on our free time. With me being an only child, this intense hobby became more of a lifestyle that I wanted to continue forever. I loved the constant excitement and unpredictability of doing something new and different from start to finish. Plus, working with my family on a day-to-day basis was fun for me. Yes, I know some of you are calling me weird but it's true!
In the summer of 2015, our family dynamic was about to change; I was marrying my high school sweetheart. YAY! We wanted to get married on my family's property, and with that our newest project emerged. The wedding! I loved the idea of creating a day that was worthy of the love that I share with my now husband. I poured over every detail from the invitations, to the tent layout, to the centerpieces; and at the time I had limited access to a laser cutter. I wanted every aspect of our wedding to show not only our simple style but our love for one another, and my mom was right there by my side helping me every step of the way.
A few months later, my mom and I were looking for a new project. Now that the wedding was over we had too much free time on our hands and no project to focus our energy and ideas. Plus, we needed a new legitimate reason to hang out every day since we no longer lived under the same roof. That is when our adventure began! We created Inscribed Moments with the hope of creating products that could be designed to express our customers' unique personality and style. We invested in a laser cutter and got to work! We started by testing a range of products and materials, but our passion has always remained constant in designing home decor, event/wedding decor, and gifts.
I run the day-to-day operations and get to call this my full-time job, but my mom is still working in the corporate world. We dream of the day that she gets to retire from her real-adult job and we are allowed to hang out in the fab lab everyday rocking our sweatpants and messy ponytails. The days we do get to spend together in the fab lab now are full of laughs and fun times. Every day contains something new and exciting and we love being able to put our creative energies together to create unique projects. It's true what they say, if you love your job then you won't ever consider it work. We love what we do and love that we get to do it with our best friend by our side.
